The place where Serb nationalist Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife on June 28, 1914. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. 2011 July 13. The assassination led directly to the First World War when Austria-Hungary subsequently issued an ultimatum to the Kingdom of Serbia, which was partially rejected.
